Eco-Congregation Group

The Saint Andrew’s Eco-Congregation Group seeks to promote greener and more sustainable ways of living informed by our Christian faith.  It is affiliated with Eco-Congregation Scotland which provides valuable resources for both individuals and churches concerned to reduce their carbon footprint and better care for God’s creation.  Group members encourage each other and members of the congregation to reflect on how each of us can ‘live more lightly on planet earth’.

We promote and encourage within the life of the church:
  • Worship – focusing on the environment as part of Intercessions and church festivals (Rogation Sunday, Harvest Festival)
  • Energy – moving to more sustainable energy usage (green electricity, double glazing, LED lighting)
  • Consumables – reducing paper usage and favouring digital communication, recycling waste, partnership with Traidcraft eco-friendly products
  • Church grounds – developing Young Church flower and vegetable plot, nurturing the Bible garden and wild flower meadow
  • Carbon Conversations – encouraging participation in local provision

  • Green Ticket Scheme – encouraging members of the congregation to reduce their carbon footprints and record this on a regular basis
In all these areas we seek to contribute to the Scottish Episcopal Church’s target of being net carbon zero by 2030.
